Doomsday Ark · As of October 2026
Privacy policy
In short: the app is free and needs no account. Without alerts we create no profile. We show no ads and use no tracking and no analytics tools.
1. Controller
Hydra Ventures UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Mühlstraße 6, 93086 Wörth an der Donau, Germany. Email: contact@doomsdayark.com
2. Loading the situation view (all users)
When you open or refresh the app, it loads the current values from our server. Our service provider Make processes technically necessary access data: IP address, time, requested address and technical details of the connection. We do not analyse this data and do not link it to you. Make keeps logs of these requests for a few days only.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is running the app securely and reliably.
3. Cost
The app is free. There are no purchases and no subscription in the app. That is why we process no payment data.
4. Alerts by push or email
When you turn on alerts, we store:
- a random installation ID and a device key. Both are created by the app and contain no information about you
- your device's push token from Apple, if you choose push
- your email address, if you choose email, plus the time and version of your consent and when you confirmed the address
- your settings: alert level, all-clear, quiet hours, time zone, language and app version
- when the app last checked in. The app checks in at least once a month when you open it
Purpose: sending you alerts. Apple delivers push notifications through the Apple Push Notification service and receives the push token and the text of the notification. We send alert emails through our mailbox at IONOS SE (see section 6). You confirm your email address once via a link (double opt-in). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every alert email or in the app. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract), for alert emails also your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
5. What stays on your device
Language, whether you have seen the introduction, collapsed sections and a copy of your alert settings are stored on your device only. The installation ID and device key are kept in the iPhone keychain, so your alert settings can be restored after a reinstall. The keychain keeps them after the app is deleted, until you reset the device.
6. Service providers
- Make (Celonis), EU data centre: computes the situation view, provides the data, stores alert settings and sends alerts. Make acts on our behalf under Art. 28 GDPR.
- Apple: App Store and delivery of push notifications. Apple processes this data under its own terms, also in the USA.
- IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany: sends the alert emails through our mailbox. IONOS acts on our behalf under Art. 28 GDPR.
7. Links to sources
The app opens links to sources in Safari. The privacy terms of the respective website apply there.
8. Retention
- Access data from section 2: a few days in Make's logs.
- Alert data from section 4: until you delete it in the Alerts tab, at the latest 12 months after the app last checked in. If Apple reports that the push token is no longer valid (for example because the app was deleted), we delete the data right away, unless you have turned on alert emails. If you unsubscribe from alert emails, we delete your email address right away. The time and version of your consent remain as proof until we delete the alert data.
- Data on your device: until you delete the app. For the keychain see section 5.
- Messages and feedback from section 12: until we no longer need them, at the latest 12 months after the last contact.
- Waitlist from section 13 and Situation Report from section 14: see there.
9. No sharing
We do not sell data. We share data only with the service providers in sections 6, 11, 12, 13 and 14 as far as the app needs it, or where the law requires it.
10. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) (Art. 21). Write to contact@doomsdayark.com. You can delete your alert data in the app at any time. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
11. This website
This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from third-party servers. Fonts are served from our own server. Only if you sign up for the waitlist or the Situation Report does your browser send your information to Make (see sections 13 and 14). When you visit, our hosting provider Netlify, Inc., 512 2nd Street, Suite 200, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, processes technically necessary access data such as IP address, time and page in server logs. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Netlify acts on our behalf under a data processing agreement. Data may be transferred to the USA. The transfer is based on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision, Art. 45 GDPR), with EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR) as a fallback.
12. Contact and feedback
When you write to us by email or through the feedback form on this website, we process your information. For the form this means the ideas you tick, your text and, if you provide it, your email address. The email address is optional. Purpose: to answer your message and to improve the app. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest: answering enquiries and evaluating feedback. If your message concerns your use of the app, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract).
Netlify stores form submissions on our behalf and checks them automatically for spam (see section 11). Our email mailbox is operated by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany, also on our behalf under Art. 28 GDPR. We delete messages and submissions when we no longer need them, at the latest 12 months after the last contact, unless the law requires longer retention.
13. Waitlist (launch message)
When you sign up on this website for the launch message, we process your email address, the language of the page, the time of sign-up, the text and version of your consent, the content and time of the confirmation email, and the time of your confirmation and, if applicable, of your unsubscription.
Purpose: to inform you by email once the Doomsday Alert app is available. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). So that nobody can add other people's addresses, we first send a confirmation email. Your address is only added to the list after you confirm (double opt-in). We record this process to be able to prove your consent (Art. 7(1) GDPR). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(c) and (f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest: being able to defend ourselves against claims.
We do not measure whether you open our emails or click links in them.
You can withdraw your consent at any time: via the link in every email or by writing to contact@doomsdayark.com. The withdrawal applies from then on. Processing up to that point remains lawful.
Your browser sends your information directly to Make (Celonis, EU data centre, see section 6). Make stores the list and sends the emails through our mailbox at IONOS SE (see section 12). Both act on our behalf under Art. 28 GDPR.
Retention: we delete unconfirmed addresses after 30 days. We delete confirmed addresses once we have sent the launch message, at the latest 12 months after sign-up. If you also signed up for the Situation Report, section 14 applies to your address. After you unsubscribe or after the list is deleted, we keep the proof of consent (address, times, consent text, confirmation email) for up to 3 years, solely to be able to defend ourselves against claims.
14. Situation Report (newsletter)
When you sign up for the Situation Report, we process the same information as for the waitlist (see section 13): your email address, the language of the page, the time of sign-up, the text and version of your consent, the content and time of the confirmation email, and the time of your confirmation and, if applicable, of your unsubscription. We also store which form you used to sign up.
Purpose: to send you the Situation Report by email once a month, with an assessment of the world situation as well as news and offers from Doomsday Ark. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). The double opt-in from section 13 applies here too. We record the process to be able to prove your consent (Art. 7(1) GDPR). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(c) and (f) GDPR.
We do not measure whether you open the Situation Report or click links in it.
You can unsubscribe from the Situation Report at any time: via the link in every Situation Report or by writing to contact@doomsdayark.com. The withdrawal applies from then on. Processing up to that point remains lawful.
Sign-up runs through Make as in section 13. We send the Situation Report through our mailbox at IONOS SE (see section 12). If we later use a different sending service, we will name it here before the first mailing.
Retention: unconfirmed sign-ups expire after 30 days. We then delete addresses that were never confirmed. We keep confirmed addresses until you unsubscribe from the Situation Report. After that we keep the proof of consent for up to 3 years, solely to be able to defend ourselves against claims.
15. Changes
When the app changes, we update this policy. The version published here applies.
